高中一年级英语阅读理解专项练习一
It feels like every time my mother and I start to have a conversation, it turns into an argument. We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, my mother will push the conversation into World War III. Shell talk about my lack of a bright future because I dont plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment, I dont want to do any job related to science, either. In fact, when I was pushed to say that I planned to major(主修) in English and communications, she nearly had a heart attack.
Why cant you be like my co|workers son? she bemoans all the time. Her co|workers son received a four|year scholarship and is now earning 70,000 dollars a year as an engineer. I dont know what to answer except that I simply cant be like Mr. Perfect as Ive called the unnamed co|workers son. I cant be like him. Im the type of person who loves to help out in the community, write until the sun goes down, and most of all, wants to achieve a career because I love it, not because of fame (名声) or salary.
I understand why my mother is worried about my future major. Ive seen my mother struggle to raise me on her small salary and work long hours. She leaves the house around 6:30 am and usually comes home around 5 pm or even 6 pm. However, I want her to know that by becoming a doctor, it doesnt mean Ill be successful. Id rather follow my dreams and create my own future.

高中一年级英语阅读理解专项练习二
Everybody is afraid of something. Thats what more than 1,700 kids told us when we asked them about fears and scary stuff. We gave kids a list of 14 scary things and asked which one frightened them most. Here are the TOP 5 answers from our survey (调查): ①Scary movies and TV shows; ②Scary dreams; ③Thunderstorms, hurricanes (飓风), and other horrible weather; ④War and terrorism (恐怖行动); ⑤Sounds heard at night.
But not everyone is afraid of the same thing. And what makes one person scared can be of no big deal for someone else. Plenty of kids said their biggest fear wasnt on our list.
What is fear?
Fear is a feeling that everyone has its programmed into all of us and thats a good thing because fear is there to protect us. Were born with a sense of fear so we can react to something that could be dangerous. The baby cries, and their mom comes over to comfort him or her, helping the baby feel safe and OK again.
Real vs. Pretend
The best way to get over a fear is to get more information about it. As kids get older, they understand more and start seeing the difference between what is real and unreal. So when Williams imagination leads him to think of witches, he can tell himself, Wait a minute. Theyre only pretend things. I dont need to worry about them.
The same goes for the dark. A kids imagination can start playing tricks when the lights go out. Whats under my bed? Is that a thief I hear? With the help of a parent, kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a nightlight or shining a flashlight under the bed to see that theres nothing there can help kids fight that fear.
73. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The list of fears is not complete. B. The things people fear are of no big fear.
C. Kids have more fears than people think. D. People are afraid of different things.
74. In the writers opinion, |||||||||||.
A. having a sense of fear is not a bad thing
B. babies have a weak sense of fear
C. fear is not something that we are born with
D. not all people can react to dangerous things
75. What does the underlined word pretend in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Ugly B. Usual C. Unreal D. Lovely

高中一年级英语阅读理解专项练习三
Too many people want others to be their friends, but they dont give friendship back. That is why some friendships dont last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (宽宏很多的);be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you dont tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you havent been honest, you may lose your friends trust. Good friends always count on one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You dont have to give your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy, like our hobbies and your interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand.
